Neurological Examination
A neurological examination is a series of tests and observations performed by a healthcare professional to assess various aspects of the nervous system function, including: Mental status: Alertness, orientation, memory, attention, language, and mood. Cranial nerves: Pupil response, eye movements, facial muscle strength, and hearing. Motor function: Strength, tone, coordination, reflexes, and gait. Sensory function: Touch, pain, vibration, and position sense. Coordination: Balance, dexterity, and fine motor control. The purpose of a neurological examination is to diagnose or rule out conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves and to monitor the progression of a known neurological disorder.
